Centrifugal Juicer vs. Masticating Juicer

January 1, 2021 By Richard

We use many juicers to make the juice, but there are many differences between the juicer machines. There are many kinds of juicer machines available at different prices in the market. Some are cheaper, affordable, but they do not work well; on the other hand, some are expensive, but they work well.

Here we will discuss centrifugal and masticating juicers in terms of how fast they work, how much they waste the food, and how much time is required to use them. We will discuss the similarities and differences between a centrifugal juicer and a masticating juicer as well.

Working of Centrifugal Juicer vs. Masticating Juicer

Centrifugal juicers are considered to produce much more food waste. Centrifugal juicers have flat cutting blades on the bottom. This flat blade rotates at high speed to cut the food. In centrifugal juicers, the cut produces a force against the juicing strainer using centrifugal force. This centrifugal force separates the juice in the juicing strainer from the pulp through the minute holes.

Many customers have issues about food waste and less juice from centrifugal juicers. Simply to make one glass of juice, they find themselves having to buy a huge amount of fruits and vegetables. In contrast, roughly one and a quarter to one and a half glasses of juice in a masticating juicer would yield the same amount of fruits and vegetables.

Speed range

In masticating juicers, it uses gears for the grinding of food. Some machines have one gear for grinding and crushing, and some have two for grinding, like a meat grinder.

Centrifugal juicer’s speed range is 3000 to 10,000 rotation per minute for hard food. You can use it at a lower speed for soft fruit and vegetables. While masticating juicers’ speed range is 40 to 100, The weight of centrifugal juicer is around 8-15 lbs, and the weight of masticating juicer is around 12-20lbs. Both machines require 5 to 7 minutes to clean up.

Noise

They are noisy; centrifugal juicer’s blades have to spin very quickly, so a lot of noise is generated by the machine’s motor and movement. The masticating juicer’s motions and gear mechanism are also much quieter than a centrifugal machine.

The high speed of spinning centrifugal juicers produces a lot of heat that kills essential vitamins and nutrients. Centrifugal juicer sometimes overfills so that continuous juicing is not possible during the juicing process.

Cleaning

Centrifugal juicers have a drawback for cleaning these machines. Strainers can be the real pain to clean because leafy green vegetables and wheatgrass build up in the strainers, and strainers become massy. So, strainers are not easy to clean.

The centrifugal system also includes pulling a lot of air into the juicing machine, oxygenating the fruit and vegetables, and creating a ‘dying’ juice as a result.

Food preparation time

For quick processing, centrifugal juicers allow you to position large chunks of food inside the machine. If the feeding tube’s mouth is wide enough, you can always push the whole apple or any fruit inside at the same time. Therefore, with a centrifugal juicer, there is little or no preparation time needed for juicing.

On the other hand, masticating juicers can jam up if you try to put big chunks inside them. It could cause you to break the gears by jamming the gears of poor-quality juicers. It can be a costly error to jam and subsequently split the gears of a masticating juicer. For this reason, it takes significantly more time to prepare juicers. You must first cut your food into small chunks before beginning to make juice your fruits and vegetables.

Centrifugal juicers work much faster than masticating juicers. Soft fruits and vegetables require less time than the bit hard pulp fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots. It takes a lot of time for masticating juicers to remove your food juices because they work hard to break down certain foods.

Some expensive juicers work very well on hard materials and softer ones, such as green leaves or grapes, despite the slow pace. The juice’s consistency is high: the juice is dense, fresh, has very little foam in it, and can last for two for one day. Since they very slowly shake the materials, there is no heat in the juice to kill the enzymes and antioxidants. These juicers are frequently multifunctional. Many may also act as a processor of food or a grinder.

Usage diversity

You can use masticating juicers to make ice creams, sorbet, and for babies’ soft food. You can also use this machine for making butter and milk from different types of nuts. But you cannot use a centrifugal machine for this type of purpose.

Masticating juicers are more expensive than centrifugal juicers. You should buy masticating juicers for hard foods and for long time use. The price of every juicer depends on the power and energy of its motor too.

If your concept is that centrifugal juicers create low-quality juice without enzymes, you should not be afraid to spend hundreds of pounds on a masticating juicer. The most common and popular option is the centrifugal juicers. We can use centrifugal juicers regularly; they offer great health benefits.

Juice yield

In a busy household where juicing needs to be done quickly, the best aspect of most good quality centrifugal juicers is that they are fast and simple to use.

The amount of extracted juice is determined by the pressure or force used to extract it. This force is provided by the size of the pulp outlet in masticating juicers. It is the rotational velocity in a centrifugal juicer that produces the centrifugal force to separate the juice. Even the humble centrifugal provides a very high yield of juice from most hard ingredients of the flesh. The difference in juice yield, much like the difference in juice quality, is not immense in most instances. Low-speed juicers can be a little more flexible, but in most situations, the time you spend juicing, there is a price to pay.
